HVAS is always seeking new members to join our
organization. We seek those people that are already EMT
certified, or those that are willing to learn. If you are
willing to learn, let us point out a few things to you that you
should know.
Each EMT is required by State mandated law to
undergo roughly 120 hours of training. Those age 16 and older may attend
this class. While it seems long, it is quite rewarding and fun
to learn in the process. Each individual that might go through
the EMS Academy can take the class in either Paramus or Mahwah
New Jersey. Classes are held for roughly three hours a day,
twice a week, and an occasional weekend. Day classes in addition
to the standard night classes are also available. The typical
setup is class on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. You
cannot miss a class, if you do you will have to make it up, but
it is extremely difficult. You should set aside three months to
complete the class. It will culminate with a final state
examination
EMT's must also be CPR certified. This
certification follows the American Heart Association Healthcare
Provider Guidelines. This also covers the use of an AED or
Automated External Defibrillator. If you are learning for the
first time and taking the EMT class, they will teach it to you
during the first few nights.
While going through the Academy you have the
ability to observe our organization at work. You can ride along
with other members. Upon an application being approved the
probationary member will be fingerprinted and a background check
will be conducted.
If you would like more information, or
clarification on any of this, please
